Here's what we were working with - a bare stretch of ground running along the base of a brick foundation with nothing going on. No definition, no plants, just patchy grass creeping up to the brick. It's one of those spots that's easy to ignore but hard not to notice when you pull up to the house.
We cut in clean bed lines along the full length of the foundation, then got to work on shrub placement. The goal wasn't to overdo it - just the right plants, spaced well, so the bed looks intentional and stays manageable. We went with a mix of compact rounded shrubs and ornamental grass-style plants to give it some variety without making it look cluttered.
After planting, we topped everything off with fresh dark mulch. That's one of those things that ties the whole bed together. It keeps moisture in, cuts down on weeds, and makes the plants pop visually. A good mulch install also means less maintenance headache down the road for the homeowner.
The bed wraps around the corner of the home too, so we made sure it looked consistent from both angles. Clean edge, uniform mulch depth, plants set back far enough to grow in without crowding the brick. The whole thing went from nothing to a finished, polished look - and now that foundation has something worth looking at.
A lot of homeowners don't realize how much a simple bed like this changes the feel of a home's exterior. You don't need a massive landscaping overhaul to make a real difference. Sometimes it's just a clean line, the right shrubs, and fresh mulch.
